Sterke Jerke Kindercoaching

About Sterke Jerke Kindercoaching

Sterke Jerke Kindercoaching supports children aged 6 to 12 in Scharnegoutum. The coaching focuses on social and emotional development and behaviour; tutoring in maths and reading is also available.

Child coaching

The coaching helps children explore their thoughts, feelings and behaviour and practise new skills. The focus is on the child's strengths and what they can already do.

• Express anger constructively and set boundaries
• Learn to cope with fear and calm yourself
• Build social skills and self-confidence
• Concentrate on work and block out classroom distractions

Tutoring

Tutoring focuses on catching up with schoolwork and building confidence at school.

• Maths
• Spelling
• Decoding
• Reading comprehension

Approach

The programme starts with an intake meeting with the parents and an introductory meeting with the child and parents. A child can usually continue independently after five to ten sessions; after about five sessions, the parents and coach discuss progress.

• Sessions take place at the practice; a session at school can be discussed
• The teacher can be involved if things are not going well at school
• Tips or assignments for home or school may be given after sessions

Practical information

A coaching session lasts about 60 minutes. An introductory meeting is free of charge, with no obligation.
