De Waag is a centre for outpatient forensic mental health care in Leiden. De Waag provides specialised care and treatment aimed at preventing new boundary-crossing or criminal behaviour.

Treatment for adults

De Waag treats adults with problems involving anger, impulse control, property crimes, domestic violence, sexually transgressive behaviour and mental health problems.

Treatment for young people

De Waag offers youth treatment for young people aged 12 to 23 inclusive. Treatment usually consists of sessions, individually or in a group; some also take place at home, at school or in other locations.

Registration and reimbursement

Treatment takes place following a referral, for example from a GP or the justice system. In a compulsory framework, treatment is reimbursed by the justice system; for voluntary treatment, the costs are in principle reimbursed by the health insurer, with a valid referral letter.
