Occupational therapy

The occupational therapists work with the client to find out what they want and need to be able to do during the day. They look for practical solutions that suit the situation and goals, such as adapting activities, managing energy or using aids.

Approach

Treatment starts by mapping out the support needs, for example in a conversation, using a questionnaire or at home. This is followed by a treatment plan tailored to the goals; when the client has regained a sense of control, the therapists look at what is needed to maintain it.

Reimbursement and referral

Occupational therapy is reimbursed for at least ten hours per calendar year under the basic health insurance policy. In most cases, no referral is needed; a brief screening takes place at the first appointment.

Aids and collaboration

The occupational therapists help with applications for aids such as a mobility scooter, home adaptations or a brace. They work with physiotherapists and maintain close contact with, among others, dietitians, psychologists, speech therapists, GPs and medical specialists.
