Approach

Dietary advice is tailored to the individual’s situation and wishes. Questions are asked during the first consultation; if needed, the client keeps a food diary for a few days beforehand. Valid identification is required at the first consultation.

• First consultation: usually 45–60 minutes
• Follow-up consultation: usually 15–30 minutes

Home visits

A home visit is possible if someone cannot come to the practice because of illness or disability. Please call to arrange this, or ask the GP to note it on the referral.

Reimbursement and costs

Basic health insurance reimburses 3 hours of dietary advice; this is subject to the statutory excess. Children under 18 have no excess for the first 3 hours. Supplementary insurance may cover more hours. For coordinated care for diabetes or CVRM (cardiovascular risk management), consultations are reimbursed without an excess if the GP or practice nurse refers the client.

Practical information

An appointment can be cancelled up to 24 hours in advance. For later cancellations or failure to attend, the consultation will be charged; these costs cannot be claimed from the health insurer.
