About POH GGZ

POH GGZ (GP practice mental health support) supports GP practices in Amsterdam with mental healthcare. At the GP’s request, the practice provides initial assessment and ongoing support to patients with mental health problems.

Support in the GP practice

POH-GGZ’ers (GP practice mental health support workers) work for and under the responsibility of the GP. They can discuss with the GP whether referral to basic GGZ (Dutch basic mental healthcare) or specialist GGZ (Dutch specialist mental healthcare) is needed.

Healthcare providers

The POH-GGZ role can be filled by different types of healthcare providers. Psychologists seconded from the psychology practice are supervised by experienced GZ-psychologen (Dutch registered healthcare psychologists) in primary care.

Groups supported by GGZ

POH GGZ supports both patients with chronic psychiatric problems and patients with mild complaints who have little experience with GGZ (Dutch mental healthcare).

Funding

The GP decides who fills the POH-GGZ role. The POH-GGZ may be employed by the GP practice or seconded from a psychology practice or institution.
