Perimentaal is a psychological practice in Amsterdam providing care related to pregnancy and birth. The practice offers support and treatment for questions and complaints related to wanting a child, pregnancy, childbirth and the period after birth.

Support needs

Support is available for emotional and psychological complaints related to wanting a child, pregnancy, childbirth and parenthood.

• Wanting a child and fertility, including fertility treatments such as IVF
• Fear and tension during pregnancy
• A distressing or traumatic birth, birth trauma and PTSD
• Premature birth, stillbirth or loss around the time of birth
• Complaints after birth, a difficult maternity period and concerns during a period in an incubator
• Relationship tensions and difficulty adjusting to the new role as a parent

Approach

Treatment is provided within basic GGZ (Dutch mental healthcare). A programme starts with a preliminary phone call and intake; goals and a treatment plan are then drawn up. Programmes usually consist of about ten sessions.

Treatment methods

The method chosen depends on the support need and what is suitable. Sessions can also take place online after a one-off in-person intake.

Practical information

The practice has two locations in Amsterdam and states a waiting time of two weeks. Therapy in English is not offered.
